Koshi Tappu Wild Life Reserve

Koshi Tappu Wildlife Reserve lies on the eastern Nepal. The Reserve covers 175 sq. kms and was established in 1976.
Koshi Tappu also know as home of Birds A total of 280 different species of birds have been recorded in the reserve. These include 20 species of ducks, 2 species of ibises, many stroks, egrets, herons and the endangered swamp partridges and Bengal floricans.
Koshi tappu wildlife reserve offers important habitat for a variety of wildlife. The last surviving population (about 100 individuals) of Wild Buffalo or Arna are found here. Other mammals occurring here are hog deer, wild deer, spotted deer and blue bull. The Koshi Tappu Wildlife Reserve is accessible by air, surface and Sunkoshi Rafting. The journey by air is just 45 minutes flight to Biratnagar from Kathmandu and then a mere one and half hours drive to the Camp. By rafting down for 8 – 10 on the wild stretches of the Sun Koshi River is another exciting way to reach the destination. The third option would be the scenic drive through the meandering countryside road of about 500 km. that takes almost 9 – 10 hours from Kathmandu.
Koshi Tappu wildlife Camp makes an exciting alternative destination for visitors who have already visited Chitwan National Park or Bardia National Park. Also for trekkers heading for returning from Arun Vally/Makalu or Kanchanjunga region. It also serves as ideal location to break journey while en-route to kathamndu Sikkim,Darjeeling, and Bhutanand have a brief relaxing stay.
What to bring?
Binoculars, Flashlight, A jacket or sweater from November through February. Lightest clothing with sunglasses and hats from April onwards. Pants should be worn during elephant rides. Bright colors such as red and white should be avoided since those colors have been known to upset the rhinos. Comfortable walking shoes are essential. Please carry only the bare necessities but not jewelers and valuable items. During the warmer months swimming suits are recommended.
